Forty Years of Love: Larry & Camille

My heart and soul must have been born in an era of the past, for this, I am certain. Call me dramatic, or easily faint at heart, but nothing is more blissfully romantic than a decadent wedding anniversary; a moment to reflect upon a love of the past and a sentimental celebration of all that encompasses a timeless love story. I like to imagine, in this so-called life we live, that we all have a story to tell. Our lives are like chapters of a novel waiting to unfold page by page. And for all of my hopeless romantics out there, today you are in luck. We are featuring an excerpt out of one of the most loveliest stories of all time... Celebrating 40 Years of Love, in honor of Larry & Camille's 40th wedding anniversary.

The Royal Scoop:

In honor of Larry & Camille's 40th wedding anniversary, I thought it would be most fitting to focus on their own personal love story. The intimate soiree was held at Cafe la Cave, a French restaurant and banquet hall in the Northern suburbs of Chicago. Amongst a romantic candlelit setting were soft and elegant accents of linens in deep chocolate, gilded gold walls, French chandeliers, fresh garden blooms, and lush ivory draperies. The perfect backdrop for a celebration of a timeless romance.

I wanted to put a bit of an unexpected twist on the typical placecard table display that is so often played out time and time again. Keeping in tune with our "love story" theme, I used the idea of a vintage library card catalogue display for the placecards. Balancing rustic charm with pure elegance, the placecard display was every bit romantic as it was charming. Love birds amongst nests of Spanish moss, a collection of vintage novels, and fresh English rose blooms were just a few of the details that brought the staging display together so perfectly. The actual placecards were larger than your standard size to replicate bookmarks. Using 80lb ivory metallic cardstock and standard cream cardstock, we layered the pieces together with spray adhesive and rounded the corners for a softer touch. For the calligraphy, we used "The King & Queen" script, which can be downloaded for free on many sites! For the perfect finishing touch, I recommend adding a small tassel to the placecard, so that your guests can reuse the placecard as a personal bookmark. We cut back on this detail to keep to budget, but I think your guests will be delighted with their own personal keepsake.

There is something undeniably luxurious and alluring about a French tufted sofa in a soft shade of shimmery gray perfectly paired with vintage couture Chanel. That something just might be the sheer gorgeousness of French elegance at it's finest, at least in my books I'd say. And fortunately for me, there is always reason to peruse through French loveliness on a daily basis. If I had it my way, every wedding and special occasion alike would be perfectly tailored with rustic charm, glamorous elegance, and a handful of French accoutrements signaling old royalty and great wealth. Despite my very own obsession with France, there really is something to denote about it's culture and that elusive je ne sais quoi factor of French style and class. It all comes together in a way that is elegant without being pretentious, chic without being overdone. Perfectly luxurious, I might add. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Owl Inspired Fête, II

Today's delightful feature is as sweet as peaches and cream and I simply can not get enough of the whimsical details nestled within. Okay, maybe I admit to having a severe case of weakness for details, but who can blame a girl when they go such a long way towards setting the overall feel of an event? One can not deny the truth in the matter- they lend such a beautiful, personal, handmade touch to any festive occasion. And the fresh Spring appeal of the ever-so-perfect details incorporated into Tova's charming 1st birthday party encapsulates all that a young one could possibly dream of. A successful nod to classic girly sensibility at it's finest. It just really is that fabulous.

The royal scoop from Tova's Mommy:

I started with a color scheme and added owls for fun. The peaches and pinks were quite pretty. The bamboo plates, platters, and sporks were from Green Feet.

We moved all of the furniture out of the front of our house and into our garage and back rooms. Then we tacked massive sheets of white fabric to the ceiling to cover the main walls. It was quite a nice transformation.

IBC cream soda and root beer. The mason jars with floral cut-out lids had white paper straws and tags that said "_________ is using this cup."

The cupcakes were made from recipes in the book "Organic and Chic". The icings were amazing, the cakes were okay. The two chocolates together were way too intense. Maybe had the icings been swapped, they would have been better. Baking supplies were from Bake It Pretty and Ultimate Baker.

Owl lollipops made from scratch. The cow milk glasses are from Shop Terrain. We love them and use them every day now. Owl shortbread butter cookies from "Organic and Chic" that melted in your mouth. Love that recipe! And a bunch of peaches.

Fancy This: Vintage Handkerchiefs

I come today bearing the most delightful vintage Save the Dates - and a slight confession. I have an obsessive compulsive disorder with all things vintage and I can not bring myself to restrain my infatuation. Seriously. Well, truth be told, I kind-of revel in this delightful little obsession of mine that increasingly grows day by day with no limitations. And clearly, today's vintage feature has prolonged my condition. Recently, I was on the prowl for some creative inspiration and I stumbled upon the most perfect and oh-so charming Save the Dates designed by Rachel of Benign Objects. This bride put so much TLC into designing a Save the Date announcement that was as lovely, as it was meaningful. And lucky for me, I just happen to have the perfect occasion to incorporate this delightful little project. {More on this DIY project to come in the future!}

The royal scoop from the darling bride:

I'd seen some printing done on handkerchiefs and really liked the tactile quality of a vintage handkerchief and the idea of creating a keepsake. I collected vintage handkerchiefs mostly through eBay. Then I created a design using my silhouette and my fiancé's silhouette. I then created a screen and handscreened all 160 of them using my Yudu.

I then tied them with ribbon to cardstock I had printed with a lovebird design on one side and a red pattern I created on the other side. Couples and ladies got the lovebirds and floral handkerchief while Philip's single guy friends got the slightly more manly version with just a white handkerchief on the patterned card. From there they went into kraft paper envelopes that I custom-lined myself. I also created custom mailing labels that I stuck to the envelope.

Below is a video that Tom of Aqua Vivus and Matthew Forrey put together for Sam and I on our wedding day. He pieced together and edited the footage all in under two hours (during cocktail hour of the wedding) and we were able to share it with guests at the end of the night on a huge projector screen! It had the whole crowd in tears! Every time I watch it, it brings me back to that very moment, and I re-live the joy of that day all over again. -Kelli Larson

Recently, I was asked what the one piece of advice I would give to all brides and grooms would be. Simple. Let your personality dictate your wedding style. Don't be afraid to break from tradition. Allow yourself to infuse unique, memorable, and personal touches that define the essence of your relationship. Taking a clue from today's gifted bride Kelli, the perfect place to start infusing personality: wedding papery elements. And with talent as inspiring and unique as that of Kelli Larson, one can only imagine how much personality she would evoke into her very own wedding invitation suite. A labor of love that clearly translates as a treasure to cherish for the recipients.

The royal scoop from the adorable bride:

I love to layer textures and fabrics into many of my designs and I decided to do that here with our invitation as well. I hand drew the branch/feather frame and chose a font I thought suited it. I scanned in some lace and layered it on top of old vintage paper. After playing around with colors for a bit, I decided on this pale peach…which I want to be a dominant color of the floral! And then I went with a slate shimmer envelope. I can’t get enough of custom die cut invitations, so I had to tack on that little added touch as well!

For those of you who stop by often on The Royal Scoop know quite well the depth of my love for all things vintage. It's pretty much a given that I am going to fall head over heels with all things that encompass a touch of vintage elegance. So it comes as no surprise that these darling papery elements, designed and printed by the bride herself, have made my heart flutter with glee. I am particularly smitten with this muted color palette… the pretty peaches and soft grays, just gorgeous. And the wedding programs...oh my! They stand as a stunning example of Kelli's talent…with perfect details, personal written notes, and a style that is all together lovely, you can't help but wish they were your very own.

Today's feature is every bit vintage inspired, and yet it has a fresh, updated perspective that is absolutely gorgeous. A little bit of pure elegance with an incredibly lovely understated style, Kelli and Sam's romantic and awe-inspiring wedding has me floating on cloud nine. Infused with a galore of garden-inspired elements, you can practically hear the birds chirping at this lovely affair. It really is just that delightful. It's that perfect blend of backyard sensibility with super chic style. And seriously, can we just have a moment for this glowing bride who defines the epitome of gorgeousness? {Sigh}.

Aside from being an illustrator extraordinaire, Kelli has a natural flair for style and design. Her eye for chic sophistication enabled her to capture pretty perfection in all that she created for her wedding day, making the entire affair seem beautifully effortless. The theme of the wedding was Vintage Garden Romance - I wanted it all to be very soft and fairy-tale like....almost like it was from another time. -Kelli Larson

The Inspiration Board: Fall Romance

I recently had a chance to discuss with Kelli the most memorable and sacred moment of her wedding day. On a day where every moment is a memory in and of itself, I was sincerly delighted to hear the emotional and loving response she shared with me.

Honestly, the best part of the whole day for me was standing on the alter with Sam, hand in hand and looking into his eyes and knowing that this was the man I would spend the rest of my life with. It was a feeling of joy and comfort and commitment and overwhelming love. Something I had never felt before. We could have been anywhere at that moment. But as I looked around me and saw all the people I have ever loved in my life witnessing and supporting our commitment to one another....it became just that much more special. Another kicker for me was the song that my friend Kendall Payne sang for us during our ceremony. It is an old hymn called "How Deep a Father's Love for Us". The words brought me to tears in thinking about the greatness of God's love. And how lucky I am to love...because He first loved me. -Kelli Larson

Although this gem of a wedding is overflowing with gorgeous details, I have to admit, it's the DIY bridesmaid's accessories that really make my heart melt. And luckily for us, Kelli is here to divulge all her secrets.

I am lucky to have a cousin who is the “queen of crafts”. Ask her how to do anything creative, and she will most likely know. Well I went to her with the idea of creating custom accessories for my bridesmaids. I didn’t want them all to wear the exact same thing, but I did want it all to coordinate in one way or another. And because their dresses are very simple….I wanted to make more of a statement in jewelry. I was inspired by the work of Marquis & Camus, a collection of jewelry that offers a truly unique look into the future of remixed couture. I am SO IN LOVE with all of it! In a dream world, I would have bought each of my bridesmaids a Marquis & Camus original…..but I decided to get crafty instead.

My cousin and I went out and bought a handful of odds and ends: charms, pearls, chains, elastic, feathers and flowers…….as well as a few “base necklaces” from forever 21. (Yes, I admit it) She hand made silk roses and coffee stained tattered tool to add as needed. After much thought on what to create with all this “goodness”, we decided on 3 necklaces, 2 bracelets, and two flower hairpieces. A little something different for each girl.

And I'm sure you're probably dying to know where you can get your hands on those fabulous bridesmaid's gowns? I'm a little embarrassed to say it, but it was from Charlotte Russe! Although I altered it myself, removing the ric rac that was on it and adding my own trim below the bust. I used the same tattered tool on the top of my own dress to tie it all in. -Kelli Larson {Gasp}. How genius is that?

Making Magic Happen

Lately, you have probably noticed that things have been quieter than usual here on The Royal Scoop. Well, we have been busy bee's making magic happen behind the scenes. Literally. Every year, my husband and I are fortunate enough to spend our winters in Florida, due to the nature of my husband's business. And during our winter break, we delightfully frolic around the enchanted land of Walt Disney World creating magical memories for families and children of all ages. Yep, that's right, we are Disney cast members. Coincidentally, our time spent as Disney cast members, making the magic happen, seems to bring as much blissful merriment into our own lives as the lives we touch. A humbling experience nonetheless.

As one might assume, working with Disney is an extraordinary experience and I feel truly blessed to be a part of a company that claims a level of greatness all it's own. There is just something really, really special about the nature of it's core being. I can honestly admit that it absolutely is a place where dreams come true and fantasies flourish. A bit of a reminder that life is much merrier with a dash of whimsy and a belief in the most fanciful of dreams.

A dream is a wish your heart makes when you're fast asleep. In dreams you will lose your heartaches. Whatever you wish for, you keep. Have faith in your dreams, and someday, your rainbow will come smiling through. No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing, the dreams that you wish will come true. -Cinderella

Happy Valentine's Day

It's Valentine's Day lovelies! A day to revel in the pure beauty of being in love with tinseled charm and unabashed sentimentality. And for a hopeless romantic like myself, it's just another excuse to celebrate the merriment of sharing my life with the one that I love so dearly. So, to add a little bit more loveliness to this already festive occasion, I thought it would be appropriate to share one of the most beautiful love stories that you have possibly ever seen. I'm just a little bit over the moon about this delightful little vignette from Phototerra Studio that I stumbled upon this weekend. In fact, I am madly in love with it. The artistic vision is simply amazing. It reigns as a true testament to the value of a fantastic cinematographer, to say the very least. The video was shot and produced by Anastasia Greenberg, wife of Michael Greenberg {owner and artistic director of Phototerra Studio}. And trust me, just a few minutes of this video and a box of tissues later, you'll know exactly what I mean.

With Saint Valentine's Day quickly approaching, I wanted to reflect upon a few lovely, and ever so simple, holiday tokens of affection that make Valentine's Day so very sweet! Clearly, my love for vintage embellishments and beautiful things knows no bounds. And luckily for me, I am not alone with this untamed obsession. I have been a fan of the darling creations of Olivia Kanaley from A Field Journal since I can long remember. Her attention to detail is impeccable, her projects are above and beyond inspiring and her gift of talent alone is absolutely remarkable. Gazing upon her designs is like a lesson in all things fabulous. Each project that she sets out to create is flawless perfection and I am undoubtedly enthralled by her talent to say the very least. Really, it's just that good. Actually, maybe even better.

There is no denying the warmth of muted yellow tones and dusty pink hues. Warm rich shades genuinely translate a cheerful color palette, which inherently provides a romantic and inviting backdrop to a blissful occasion. With lots of sparkly mercury accents nestled throughout, this organic tablescape feels surprisingly glamorous as well, but when anchored with lots of white it feels fresh and crisp like the early summer mornings. After stumbling upon this glorious creation by Maddy Hague of The Inspired Bride and Kristen Maggee of Paper Crave, I couldn't agree more with the carefully selected title for their inspiring work of art. The premiere issue to launch, Beautiful on a Budget, is full to the brim of divine projects, templates, printables, and creative ideas to inspire couples and event planners alike. What more could a girl ask for then the perfect bit of inspiration for creating deluxe décor on a dime? I'm often asked myself just how a seedling of an idea can blossom into it's very own state of being? How is it that one can take the smallest of inspiration and translate it into something above and beyond what one could have imagined? Well, Nonpareil defines for us all just that. Such incredible and valuable information for any bride-to-be, or hostess for special occasions alike, planning to foray into the world of do-it-yourself crafts.

Beyond being artistically gifted, Summer is generous with her time and creative knowledge and teaches brides all about the DIY perspective on weddings. A girl after my own heart, Summer's inspiring designs often translate into whimsical romance. How divine.

Photographer extraordinaire Jessica Claire held a photography workshop for up and comers and industry pro's alike, all styled by Summer Watkins of Grey Likes Weddings and the result was purely magnificent. Although today's couture inspiration made the blog rounds late last year, I absolutely believe it is worth featuring again. The styling is timeless, the details alone are insanity, and the whimsical color palette is so dreamy. It rests as a platform of steal worthy ideas that can easily be translated in so many different directions. In a perfect world, I envision myself living quaintly amongst the hills of the French countryside safely tucked away within a French château. Honestly. And nestled within my lovely château I would have a collection of the most exquisite décor from the likes of charming boutiques and vintage shops. A balanced blend of majestic and regal furniture, everything from cottage chic to über couture and lovely accessories infused with charming modern touches and elegance throughout. A place to indulge in one's fancies and to compose one's soul. A girl can dream, can't she?

I have been enamored with the glamorous designs of Layla Grayce since I long discovered their elegant reproductions of heirloom pieces fit for the Highness in all of us. Vintage and French chic décor just seems to elicit that perfect touch of opulence and romance in my little whimsical world . A magnificent home that combines urban and industrial with provincial and girlie is my cup of tea.

I am absolutely smitten with this picture perfect boutique bedroom and I'm longing for the day to come when I can make it my very own romantic hideaway. Bar none, the highlight of The Wedding Party was the Kleinfeld bridal fashion show. Absolutely amazing! For most of you who are familiar with TLC's Say Yes to the Dress know quite frankly that the bridal house Kleinfeld in New York City is simply divine. Magnificently divine in fact. A Manhattan boutique filled with the largest collection of couture bridal gowns and exquisite design exclusives. And today we have an exclusive scoop on all the pretty inspiration that went into the making of the fantastic Kleinfeld bridal fashion show at The Wedding Party. Captured by Mel Barlow, Allan Zepeda and Carlos Varela these pictures define the essence of such a dreamy day that I am still gushing about.

The Mediterranean Ballroom at The Breakers was the perfect stage for the glamorous occasion.

This chic bridal show is my definition of love at first sight. A balanced combination of soft, delicate, flirty, and romantic designs that pair so perfectly amongst one insanely gorgeous setting. Simply breathtaking.

I was absolutely in awe of the wedding wonderland that The Wedding Party had laid out for us. {Sigh}, Stunning. Seriously stunning. And the details throughout the day were blissfully breathtaking. This beautiful photo shoot was inspired by a vibrant palette of red berry hues and accented to perfection with deep violets, creamy yellows, and soft, subtle, pale pinks. A handful of vintage vessels were used to establish an eclectic theme throughout this gorgeous garden setting, while antique china pieces and luscious peonies, poppies, and other wild blooms spilled over top. Exquisite. Timeless. Ethereal. I love those words. Perhaps for some they might be too cliché, but quite frankly, they excite me. They always have. I'd like to think that they might define my own sense of style, or even my very own wedding. To be perfectly honest here, I've never been much of a simple girl. I love the unexpected, I love to push the envelope, and I love to take the route less traveled. I'm just a bit complicated. Lucky for me, my husband just seems to get it.

Well, thankfully I am not alone. It seems with each passing day, I come across more and more brides who share a similar perspective. From the Über-chic affairs to the oh-so charming backyard weddings, one thing is for certain: it's all in the details! It's the simplest of details that translate a couple's love. DIY Fabric Poms, II

Sometimes the simplest of things make me swoon and gush with excitement. I guess one could say that the sweetest things in life are the smallest things. Life is full of so many small treasures and I sincerely love a fantastic creation that is full of charm and lovely inspiration! So today, I am just giddy with pure excitement over a fabulous DIY project (via Once Wed) and I am so eager to try my hand at this adorable miniature fabric flower garland.

Supplies: Scissors, needle and thread, fabric, and a pencil.

Step 1: Fold your fabric and use the spool of thread to trace a circle. Then cut the circles out.

Step 2: Take one circle and fold it in half.

Step 3: Take the half circle and fold it in half again.

Step 4: Then take your circle and stitch through the bottom. Continue this step, adding at least 6 circles on top of the first.

Step 5: Once you have sewn all 6 circles, connect the petals together by stitching through each one at the corners and then tying off the tread with a double knot.

Step 6: Next, cut 3 yards of thread and add on the flowers one by one.

Whether you are the hostess of a gorgeous soirée, a whimsical birthday party, or even a charming wedding itself, one could incorporate fabric poms in an assortment of ways. They look fabulous hanging from the ceiling, draped across an aisle, attached to the back of chairs, and even laid across a table as an added element of décor. Every once in a while, you'll stumble upon a good thing within the wide world of blogging. Something that stands apart from the norm and inspires on a level all it's own. And today's entry is blogging jackpot!

Introducing, DIY Fabric Poms! {Sigh}, simply perfection! While there have been many takes on pom poms in the past, I think these delightful little beauties grab the prize! L-O-V-E the choice of fabric coloring! These gorgeous poms would make a fantastic addition to a baby shower! And I can not wait to make my very own!

Supplies: Fabric, scissors, hot glue gun, and Chinese lanterns.

Step 1: Cut circles out of fabric.

Step 2: Fold the circle in half and put a little hot glue on the center, then fold over to secure.

Step 3: Apply more hot glue to the bottom of the folded circle

Step 4: Press the bottom of the folded circle with the hot glue onto the Chinese lantern.

Step 5: Repeat these steps until the whole lantern is covered. Once finished, attach some fabric to the metal frame of the lantern to hang.

During the holiday season, I truly enjoy embracing "the reason for the season" in an old fashioned and traditional manner and eagerly look forward for the time to come when I can create and establish traditions for my very own family during the holidays. From Christmas caroling, to candlelit church services, to tree trimming, to a parade of lights, and holiday baking, nothing is as magical as the Christmas season. I love to reminisce on the holiday memories of my own childhood and while there are many, I most profoundly remember my mother having "It's a Wonderful Life" and "White Christmas" on constant repeat during the holidays. A tradition I am sure to carry on myself.

As we celebrate the magic of Christmas this year, I hope that you will be inspired to create and carry on your own holiday traditions for years to come for your family. What is significant to you during the holidays? What defines Christmas for you? What traditions and memories do you hope to pass down to your own family? For me, I revel in the ways and traditions of the past and I genuinely appreciate the simplistic traditions of the holidays. I wish you all a delightful holiday season and joyous new year! Merry Christmas to one and all!

A Christmas Story

This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"--which means, "God with us."
When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him."

When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people's chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born. "In Bethlehem in Judea," they replied, "for this is what the prophet has written: "'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.'" Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him."

After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.

On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.

When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. "Get up," he said, "take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him."

So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my son."

When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled: "A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more."

After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt and said, "Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child's life are dead."

So he got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel. But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Having been warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of Galilee, and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was said through the prophets: "He will be called a Nazarene."

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree, III

Using a small pastry brush, paint cookie in desired base color. Allow base to dry if sugaring or piping decoration. Leave wet if creating holly leaves, holly leaf garland, heart, or heart garland. Continue to decorate if using wet.

To make 4 cones: With a large piece of parchment in front of you, cut off each corner, forming 4 right triangles.

Using your left hand, hold down the left top corner of the triangle. Using your right hand, roll the bottom right corner, making a cone shape; hold tightly in place.

Using your left hand, wrap the left corner over the cone, securing the overhang by folding downward into the cone.

Fill the cone 2/3 full of desired colored royal icing. Secure top of the cone by folding the excess at the top down, pressing icing down into bottom of cone.

Pipe desired effects onto cookie. Allow to dry, if necessary.

If sugaring, sprinkle sugar onto wet piping, shaking off excess.

Using parchment cone, pipe dashes with green royal icing onto wet cookie.

Using a toothpick, pull perpendicularly on both sides of the dashes.

Add red dots for holly berries. If creating a holly garland, pipe dashes in a line going in a zigzag pattern, leaving space for berries in between, as desired.

Pipe a contrasting colored dot onto wet base of cookie. Using a toothpick, pull through the middle of each dot to create heart shape. Create a garland of hearts by lining up dots and drawing toothpick through dots in one direction in a single motion.

Sugar Cookies: [Makes about 36 cookies]

Ingredients-
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 recipe Vanilla Icing
Assorted colored dragées, assorted colored

Directions-
1. In a large bowl and using an electric mixer at low speed, beat the butter and sugar together until blended. Increase speed to high, and beat until light and creamy, about 5 minutes. Reduce speed to low, and beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Add the flour, salt, and baking powder, and mix until blended.
2. Divide the dough into 2 equal portions, and flatten each portion into a disk. Wrap each disk with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 1 hour, or until dough is firm enough to roll. Alternatively, freeze the dough for 30 minutes.
3. Preheat oven to 350˚. On a lightly floured surface, roll the first half of the dough to 1/8-inch thickness. With floured 3- and 4-inch cookie cutters, cut the dough into as many cookies as possible; gather, wrap, and refrigerate scraps. Place the cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet, spacing 1 inch apart.
4. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until lightly browned. Transfer cookies to wire racks to cool. Repeat process with the second half of the dough and then with the scraps.
5. When cookies are cool, prepare Vanilla Icing. Decorate cookies with icing, dragées, nonpareils, and sanding sugars, if desired. Set cookies aside to allow icing to dry completely, about 1 hour.
6. Store in a tightly covered container with parchment paper between layers if cookies are decorated. Cookies will keep at room temperature for up to 2 weeks or in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Vanilla Icing:

Ingredients-
1/2 cup cold water
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoon meringue powder
4 cups confectioners’ sugar, sifted
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Assorted food colorings

Directions-
1. In a medium bowl, whisk the water and meringue powder together until frothy. Whisk in confectioners’ sugar, and beat until smooth, then stir in vanilla extract.
2. Separate mixture into several small bowls, then add food coloring to achieve desired colors. Use small pastry brushes to paint cookies with icing.

Today we are unveiling a look inside The Royal Sweet Shoppe and I am gushing with excitement to share my sweet world with you all! I spend much of my time focused on the aesthetic elements and couture designs that define The Royal Sweet Shoppe, our brand, and what we have to offer in a forever changing industry. To be completely honest, it's a bit more challenging than one might imagine.

In the social media world that we live in today, one can find a plethora of inspiration online to help develop concepts and ideas to drive one's business. From blogs to websites, the networking community within the Internet is an invaluable resource! It's now easier than ever to get your brand out there, to establish a strong reputation, and a sense of authority within your own realm of business. Convenient? Yes! However, it's a catch22. In order to survive and thrive in today's business world, one must creatively inspire on a level all their own. So, with constant and ever growing competition I aspire to remind myself each and every day of my goals and plans for both The Royal Gala and The Royal Sweet Shoppe and to focus on that alone. Truth of the matter, it just really boils down to, "knowing what you do and doing it really well!"

I was recently asked to "bake" up a blog that dwelt into all things that encompass The Royal Sweet Shoppe and to highlight our whimsical vision for the company. Purely Couture, Evian Prêt-à-Porter 2008

I'm a style savvy kind of a gal and I absolutely love fancy bottled water, especially fancy bottled water from France nonetheless! When I used to live in central France, I had access to some of the most fantastic bottled water available! Fresh spring water that you typically pay a chunk of change for in any gourmet grocery store today. Honestly, I do appreciate more than just the fancy bottle, pretty packaging, and celebrity endorsers; I enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that my water is as pure as nature intended it to be.

However, this changes everything! Who would have thought that Evian water and haute couture fashion designer Christian Lacroix would make such a perfect pairing? {Sigh}, This is magnificent! And I own 36 bottles and counting...

Every year, the brilliant marketing and production designing team of Evian pair up with a fashion designer to create festive limited edition water bottle designs to celebrate the holiday season. Genius! In 2008, Evian revealed two holiday collection bottles, Evian Prêt-à-Porter and Evian Haute Couture. Evian Prêt-à-Porter has a frosted lace pattern over the bottle and the over the top Haute Couture version is a glass bottle in the shape of an ice queen with a voluminous alpine skirt. Only 99 bottles were produced of the Haute Couture design and they were auctioned off for charity starting at $1000! The Prêt-à-Porter bottles were sold to gourmet grocery stores and were tagged for $13.95. A bit pretentious for water? I beg to differ!

These couture treasures can be packaged elegantly and passed around as gifts during the holiday season or even used as delightful favors for your holiday events and parties.

Tip of the day: Attach a gorgeous name tag to the bottle and use the bottle as both your place card setting and as your favor for your guests. The delicate snowflake and lace like border of the glass bottle will be that finishing touch, that you bring to your holiday table! Purely couture!

Introducing, vintage glitter houses {Sigh}! Aren't they absolutely divine? I simply L-O-V-E the perfect pairing of vintage decor accessories and the soft pastel color palette, just heavenly! And all that glitter is breathtaking! From retro bottlebrush trees with ornament balls to vintage tinsel and trim, these delicate little treasures instantly create a mood of holiday nostalgia!

Whimsical art designers, Bethany Lowe and Cody Foster, have absolutely perfected the look of vintage glitter houses, at a pricey penny nonetheless! They typically blend soft color tones and old world materials with an eclectic mix of European glitter, imported from Germany. Covered with drifting snow, these charming houses are sure to bring a bit of whimsy to your holiday season.

Instead, I prefer to put a bit more whimsy into the holiday season and celebrate Christmas with girly touches and in a flirtatious manner with soft pastel pinks, winter whites, and all that glitters.

"Falling" in love, II

As if our gorgeous feature of Jenny Steffens's girly Fall inspired post wasn't fabulous enough, today we are featuring some of her fantastic DIY tips, via Style Me Pretty, that are so easily approachable for everyone! I am so excited to incorporate these fantastic ideas into my many upcoming projects!

From Jenny:

I spent a fun day in my front yard and put together a fantastic inspirational/do-it-yourself table setting – perfect for a flirty Fall wedding. I chose soft, feminine colors (instead of using the typical orange, golds and yellows that are used in Fall weddings) of ivory, pink, blues and natural colors. Natasha’s Mulberry & Mott made the fabulous Bee Hive Cake for the table.

Rose & Wheat Bouquet: Using creamy garden roses and soft pink tea roses and 10 stems of wheat, I gathered the flowers into a bouquet – taping the stems together with floral tape. Next, I added wheat around the roses, creating a collar. For the wrap, I used a small piece of burlap (that matches the table runner – and is super inexpensive!) and secured it with pearl pins… I love the mixture of rustic and refined elements.

Pumpkin Place Cards: To make the sweet and seasonal place cards, I spray painted mini white pumpkins a soft shimmery gold. I snipped the stems and inserted a small name card (printed on textured cardstock) into each pumpkin. A very simple, but special looking project.

Table: I used a variety of linens to achieve a luxurious feel – natural oatmeal linen as the base, a wide brown burlap runner and topped with a classic ticking stripe runner. To bring more seasonal elements to the table, I added Blue Hubbard squash on each side of our “Bee Hive” Cake created by Natasha’s Mulberry & Mott (Kansas City). Each place was set with vintage gold plates, classic hemstitch linen napkins, and, of course, the pumpkin place cards. For added ambiance, I added single rose blooms in bud vases that bring some floral whimsy to the table – without a big investment!

Most recently, more and more of today's engaged couples are incorporating whimsical props into their engagement photo sessions and I am a BIG fan of this idea! From balloons, to cotton candy, to ice cream cones, to carousels, vintage props provide that fabulous "je ne sais quoi" factor for a modern twist on engagement portraits. I just adore this idea and have a new slight obsession with balloons, especially large pink ones! I must admit, I simply adore being a girl!

I absolutely adore whimsical elements! I genuinely appreciate the dreamy yet eclectic mix of vintage designs with a hint of playfulness that you typically find within the design elements of anything whimsical. While planning my "Marie Antoinette" inspired wedding, I fell head over heels in love with the ever so brilliant French director Sofia Coppola. Sofia is responsible for a plethora of pure genius designs and artwork, but most notably for her work on the 2006 film Marie Antoinette. Her work is typically infused with delicious couture inspiration, and her most recent work for Dior’s Miss Dior Chérie fragrance is everything fabulous, magnificent, and yes... whimsical! An enchanting and infectiously happy commercial with a perfect blend of couture fashion and a gorgeous soft color palette... {Sigh} simply PERFECTION!

As we wrap up our look of regal inspired weddings, let's finish off with my favorite of favorites, the stationery pieces!

Vintage Spanish postcards were designed and placed upon each guest's place setting with a handwritten note from the bride, Andrea. I absolutely love this idea and think it's a must for every wedding! More and more brides are creating welcome/thank you notes for their guests as an extension of their appreciation for their family and friend's love and support on their special day. Nothing is more personal than a hand written note and your guests will be delightfully surprised at your thoughtfulness. To all things wonderful there is always a down-side and quite frankly, this is a large undertaking, so pace yourself ladies!

When working with a theme, stick to the elements that encompass that theme without going overboard on the concepts. For instance, Andrea's Spanish regal flair was definitely highlighted with vintage crowns, but vintage crowns alone. Find that little bit of something that you really appreciate about your theme and work it from every angle!

A collection of vintage crowns were set on top of two velvet pillows and a bed of pavé roses giving the event an eclectic charm. Love, love, love this!

Tip of the day: Although this look is professionally tailored to perfection it can be easily recreated. Buy a vintage style cake stand (Home Goods) and adorn hanging crystal strands. Next, you will need to purchase a few square floral foam boards (Michael's) for adorning your fresh floral pieces. Small velvet pillows will rest on top of the floral foam boards allowing you to only cover the open and exposed areas of the foam boards. Lastly, you will need a vintage crown topper (Hobby Lobby) and voila!

I love the nontraditional yet striking teal and coral color scheme and the fabulous regal Spanish details infused throughout the event. The wedding itself was inspired by the bride's semester spent abroad in Madrid and was beautifully executed by the oh-so-fabulous wedding coordinator Heather Balliet (San Diego CA). Crown Suite Stationery

I love vintage crown stationery pieces! In fact, I infused many "crown" elements into my own wedding! There's something so nostalgic about regal details and the way of the past. I have always been fascinated with royalty and the idea of a monarchy from a very young age. Maybe that has something to do with growing up with books and magazines of Princess Diana lying around the house, or even my love for Walt Disney World and the romantic fairy tales of the likes of Cinderella and Snow White.

For those of you who know me quite well, know as a matter of fact, that I heart Europe! Like in an OCD kind of a way! I think much of my obsession for Europe is driven from my appreciation for it's past. I'll never forget my first trip to the Palace of Versailles in Paris back when I was studying abroad in France. The moment I stepped foot on those insanely gorgeous grounds I was in heaven! I guess one could say that I have a fetish for the finer things in life!

Well, today we are focusing on regal elements and although I can not afford the glitz and glamour or lifestyle of a royal, I can appreciate FREE stationery pieces infused with regal elements!

Well, before we wrap up our vintage glam wedding post of the day, I'd like to take a moment and focus on some final details that speak volumes to the style of the entire event!

Carnations, carnations, carnations! Yep, that's right, gorgeous, stunning, enormous carnation arrangements. When trying to cut back on floral, try to focus on flowers that go a long way. Carnations and roses are both perfect examples of floral blooms that give you a lot of bang for your buck. I know you have probably long dreamed of having fabulous peonies and hydrangeas at your affair, however there are still many ways of achieving beautiful arrangements on a scaled back budget.

Tip of the day: If you love the lush, romantic, full look of peonies, try to incorporate large open-bloom roses in place of pricey peonies. You'll have a comparable look that's friendlier on your pocket.

If floral is not in your budget at all, try to come up with creative elements that still create a romantic ambiance for your affair. At the end of the day, your guests will be moved and inspired by the overall personal details that encompass your special day, not the floral alone. Lindsey & John created a whimsical touch to their affair on a minimal budget by bringing in large white balloons and white feather boas.

To keep things classy yet playful when incorporating balloons, be sure to use very large balloons (3 ft) as opposed to the standard sizes.

In the words of Rachel Zoe, "This is bananas!" I am just head over heels in love with the gorgeousness just oozing from this wedding and the beautiful fashion elements incorporated. I first stumbled across this wedding from the blog of the super talented photographer Kristin Vining (Charlotte NC). I think it's so great that there are so many stunning details to Lindsey & John's event, however they achieved them all in a rather simplistic way. It definitely goes to show you just how far a bit of creativity can take you!

I adore these vintage bridesmaids necklaces, they look as if they were borrowed from Jackie-O herself. What's not to love about them when they were purchased from Forever 21!

Where was this flower girl dress when I needed it? Simply adorable! I just love the vintage vibe of all of the fashion pieces and accessories. When planning a memorable event, remember that vintage finds are like little treasures, they will help to create a sense of "old romance" to your affair.
